The NDA 702 elemental analyzer for nitrogen and protein determination works according to the Dumas combustion method

The Dumas method, also known as the combustion method, is a primary method of Nitrogen and Protein determination that provides rapid results, ease of use, and safety.

It is often considered an alternative to the classical Kjeldahl method. This is because different international organizations validate both methods: Kjeldahl is officially recognized by AOAC, EPA, DIN, ISO, etc., while Dumas is by AOAC, AACC, ISO, DIN, ASBC, AOCS, OIV, etc. However, in some countries, local guidelines recommend one method over the other.

This is why many decision-makers and users are undecided between the two methods and following local guidelines or international standards.
